Metric Bolts
Metric bolts follow a pretty commonly used standard in construction and equipment
fastening today. If you are a repair technician or construction worker, then you know
how much of a hassle it can be to have to carry several sets of tools and bolt types.
Setting up your metric bolts inventory can help ease the burden a bit.

Metric Bolts: The World Standard
Metric bolts come in a wide variety of types and sizes, so it can be difficult to sort
through it all to make sure you have what you need in your repertoire. We all know
that hex headed bolts are pretty much the standard. These can come in standard or
flange head types. The flange type has a bearing surface built right into the base of
the head to eliminate the need for a washer. This is especially useful in cars and
motorcycles.

Twelve sided double hex bolts are also common, like on Harley Davidson cylinder
heads or other high performance vehicular applications. Socket head metric bolts are
also common for fastening in tight places. In the case of a standard sized hex head,
clearance for the bolt must be taken into account between the parts being fastened
together. Socket head bolts run more flush with the components. An allen or torx
wrench is needed to fasten such bolts to provide a high torgue hold between
components.
