HEX HEAD CAP SCREWS: U.S., METRIC & STAINLESS STEEL
(Also known as hex bolts)
Hex Head Cap Screws
Hex head cap screws come in a variety of sizes, finishes, grades and threads. The most popular hex cap screws are the grade 5 steel bolts with a zinc finish. When looking for outdoor use or a stronger bolt the grade 8 yellow zinc plated bolts are a better choice. The name hex cap screw and hex bolt are commonly interchanged. A hex cap screw is actually manufactured with tighter tolerances and can be used anywhere a hex bolt is used. A common feature on a hex cap screw is a washer surface directly under the head which creates a better seal.
Hex Head
Bolts or cap screws with a hex head have a hexagonal or six sided head. These bolts can be screwed in with a common wrench or socket drive. They are better than a square head bolt when in tight places. The hex head can be driven with shorter wrench swings because of the six sided head.
